Our mission:

To carry the Word of God and the teachings of the United Methodist Church to the congregation of Avondale UMC, to inspire all with a thirst for the knowledge of Christ, and to satisfy that thirst with a lively and passionate interchange of ideas.

Book Club News

And now what you've all been waiting for: the next reading list! Here's the books we'll be reading for the rest of this year:

Aug. 28: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, by Mary Ann Shaffer
Sept. 25: Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal, by Christopher Moore
Oct. 30: The Case for Christ: A Journalist's Personal Investigation of the Evidence for Jesus, by Lee Strobel
Dec. 4: The Honor of the Queen, by David Weber
Jan. 8, 2011: The Book Thief, by Marcus Zusak

Note: Lamb has been moved to September because Mid-Continent Library couldn't get enough copies for us in time for the August meeting.

All of the titles are available from Mid-Continent Library. They only have The Honor of the Queen as a sound recording, but it's also available free online in electronic format.

If you have any suggestions for next year's reading list, please contact Sandy Keeney.

Starting in January, we will meet on the second Saturday of every month at 10:00 AM. We will meet in the library unless there are other events going on in Wesley Hall. If that happens we’ll meet in Contemporary Life.

 Our Card Catalog

Stop by and check out our card catalog. Never seen an old-fashioned hard-copy card catalog? Don't know how to use one? It's easy! Click here for complete directions, or ask a member of the library committee for a demonstration.

Book Displays

The library committee will be setting up book displays in the narthex every so often, for special days, sermon topics, or seasons. Keep an eye open - you never know when one will turn up. If you see a book on the display that you'd like to check out, feel free - you can do it right from there.

Here's our display from World Communion Sunday.

Library Hours

As you know, our library is open whenever the church building is open. If you need some help, though, please feel free to contact me or any of our library committee members.
